FMA Scholarships
Each year, the FMA awards music scholarships to enable middle and high school students to pursue music education beyond their in-school experience. During 2009, we awarded $5,000 to deserving Foxboro students and we hope to award a similar total this year. Scholarships can be used for summer music camps (such as SYMS, South Shore Conservatory), Foxboro summer music programs (Intermediate Music Camp, Jazz Improvisation Workshop), or for private music lessons.
This year, scholarship auditions will be conducted on April 26, 2010 (the Tuesday following April vacation) from 3:00 to 6:00 PM. The application deadline is Wednesday, April 6, 2010. The application is available on this site, as well as through any music teacher at the Ahern Middle School or Foxboro High School. The instructions are available here and also below.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact your child’s music teacher or Karen Thomas, FMA Scholarship Chair. Please encourage your child to participate in this audition process. It is a great opportunity for personal musical growth.
Instructions
Eligibility requirements:
- Applicant must be a student in Grades 5-11 in the Foxboro Public Schools.
- Applicant must be a current participant in a school-sponsored music group.
- Applicant must not have received a major (1st through 6th prize) in the previous year.
Students should select one instrument on which to audition. Each student must prepare a NEW piece for the audition, not a piece previously prepared for a school group, district or state competition. All students should also be prepared to play scales. Auditions for the junior level (5th – 8th grade) will be 5 minutes, while auditions for the senior level (9th – 11th grade) will be 7 minutes. Students will be judged on the audition performance (on a grade-level basis), as well as on the application essay. This is not a need-based scholarship.
To be considered, you must submit a completed application and essay.
